Grand Theft Auto IV: Liberty City Stories, the ninth title in the GTA Series developed by Rockstar North, beat all the expectations and helped itself to take the crown for the fastest selling game title of all time with a record sale of 6 million copies in its first week. After a worldwide release on 29th April 2008 the record sales sums up to more than 500 million dollars in the first 7 days.

 

 

 

Commenting on the mega scales with which GTA 4 has taken the market, Take-Two Interactive – the distributors of this game title - chairman Strauss Zelnick said - "Grand Theft Auto IV's first week performance represents the largest launch in the history of interactive entertainment".

This mega launch of GTA IV is generally believed to strengthen the position of Take-Two Interactive in its negotiations with take over bids from Electronic Arts.
