From the developers of accolade winning title Fight Night Round 3 – they were called EA Chicago then -, comes another edition of fun filled eye popping boxing title – FaceBreaker – targeted for release in early September 2008. FaceBreaker is a cartoon style boxing game, which EA Canada is developing for XBOX 360, PS3 and Wii. The game lets players to literally break their opponents faces and the game uses the help of ‘real-time facial deformation’ for adding spectacular face deformation effects.

The Game Play

The game play tilts the balance in favor of fun and crisp looks rather than at simulation and this comes as a deviating yet highly acceptable change from the previous title. The game reminds a lot of the Ready 2 Rumble series and offers highly polished graphics. With each power packed punch you can make your opponents face warp into comical patterns. This feature is definitely thought by the developers to be something, which will highlight the game play of FaceBreaker.

The game offers a whole lot of characters with unique personal traits and fighting prowesses. Characters are portrayed beautifully and look much realistic in an artistic way. Some of the characters include Molotov - a Russian demolitions expert with a penchant for fighting dirty; Romeo – a Latin lover known for his pelvic thrusts; Voodoo – who is obese, and a part time pirate and witch doctor; Spin - the British DJ; Steve - the kung-fu boxer. These characters each offer their own signature moves and the player can choose anyone of these characters in fun filled bashing mayhem.

Apart from these characters, players can utilize the Digimask technology to add a realistic personal touch to the characters they play. This technology lets the players capture their images using the XBOX Live Vision Camera and PlayStation Eye and use these snaps to model your character using the Photo Game Face. So next time you need to bash up some one you hate, just use his photo to model out an opponent character and unleash a barrage of blows to experience the bliss of comical face deformation. Drop in a super combination to rearrange his jawbones into mad angles.

Conclusion

For us the cartoon touch offers a tinge of freshness in the series for this title. For those ardent fans of Fight Night Round 3 who think they were cheated by EA by offering childish goodies instead of plain old boxing experience, they can wait for the Fight Night Round 4, which is also under development.
